New Year's Eve

1. The only resolution I'll make wholeheartedly is: I will back up my data. All of it. Regularly.

2. There's some really good surfing sources in this 2003 Reasons to Live

3. Some examples:

Take the red pill

This is one of the best awareness campaigns on factory farming I've seen yet. It's such a tough subject to stomach that many of the films etc. make you turn away before you can hear the message. Put it in a cartoon and it's a little easier to swallow... Enter the Meatrix.

Connected efforts well worth noting:
- The Eat Well Guide - search for suppliers of specialty meats: non-medicated, free range, etc.
- The Sustainable Table has info on why more traditional meats are better not just for the animals but for us, our environment, rural communities, and the workers involved in meat production.

Ready for Action

So while I was whacked out of course I dreamed. I fell asleep with the thermometer in my mouth, and then...

I've shown up at Jody's, "ready" for our art day. Problem is I'm in my nightshirt, housecoat, and the thermometer is in my mouth. But I'm ready to make art! I have that sheepish "how'd I get here half naked" feeling you get in dreams, and try to throw on some pants before Jody notices the state I'm in (yeah, right!). She's suggesting we draw cartoons because they can be really neat when you're kind of hallucinating, like me.

...After more than 48 hours of mostly sleeping, I've been awake all day. time to fix that. good nite.

There's nothing to see here

For the one or two of you who might have noticed an absence of, well, moi, lately... I'm truly sorry. First there was a short-notice trip to Edmonton. Summary: didn't see much other than hotel and office, wasn't that cold, ate some excellent food and some really crappy food, breathed in more second hand smoke than my purist Vancouverite lungs would like. Then there was this cold or whatever the hell it is that's got my strapping immune system yelling "uncle!". Wow. I haven't slept so much in years, but I still have suitcases under my eys...

*shudder*

Another strange dream... My mom, my siblings and I are in some strange town where my younger sister is living. (Maybe it's Coal Harbour or Port Hardy where she actually is these days...) We go on a little dinghy trip. When we dock, we're talking to some townswoman and this, um, dog comes up to me wagging it's tail. Only it's not a dog, really. It wags and moves it's body like a dog, but it's completely monotone and so short haired as to be almost sleek and golden. The weirdest thing is that it's head is well, kind of human. Stylized-manequin-head kind of human. And it's paws are kind paw-hands.

A week or so ago I had a dream about a puppy that was kind of like a piglet. Maybe I'll lay off the sci-fi for a while...
