Low-carb vs. low-fat diet debate distracts from the real weight loss solution

In an article on newstarget.com, Mike Adams argues "The real test about weight loss should compare diets consisting of processed foods versus unprocessed foods." If you aren't sold by the article then you might be by further info on and photos of Adams. Looks pretty darn healthy to me...

Why Africa?

This week's Georgia Straight cover story is a disheartening article by Bob Geldof.

Twenty years ago next year I stood in the death camps of northern Ethiopia. As far as I could see in the denuded and blasted moonscape about me, people, often naked, streamed out of the hills and plains in long lines to a place they'd heard others had come to sit and wait and die perhaps, until someone found them and could maybe help. Often they were tiny scraps of humanity, aged five or six, whose parents had long since collapsed on the unmarked trails but had urged them to continue on.

The published (shorter) version.
The full transcript.

20 years ago, I was in elementary school. I was alarmed at the plight of the starving, the possibility of nuclear war, the general state of the world. I still am today. Only today I feel more powerless to affect it.

I should temper that dreary note with a mention of two organizations that I support which, I think, are working on the right "big picture" problems to have real effect on our futures: Inter Pares and The Council of Canadians.

Shrek 2

Bought Shrek 2 yesterday. Effin brilliant. I love Puss In Boots and the Fairy Godmother. I won't say any more in case it would spoil it for you. But seriously, it's a must see if you like this kind of thing.

Must be time to upgrade my MT-Blacklist install and take some other anti-spam measures such as those recommended here. I've been getting a lot of comment spam the last couple of weeks. But, that's not a job for tonight.
